Latvia prepared to expand cooperation with Kazakhstan in transit sector

On Friday, 13 May, Latvian Ministry of Transport’s deputy state secretary Uldis Reimanis met with deputy Minister of Industry and Infrastructure Development of Kazakhstan Ruslan Beimishev during his visit to Kazakhstan. The two sides discussed opportunities to service Kazakhstan’s export and import freight using Latvia’s transit corridor, as well as the expected signing of aviation agreement between the two countries.
The Ministry of Transport reports that during the meeting with Governor of Karaganda Zhenis Kasimbekhov, the two sides agreed that Karaganda Oblast Administration will provide information about the companies of the region and the export goods that could be transported through Latvian sea ports.
Latvia’s sea ports, on the other hand, will consider their abilities and will offer their services to increase the flow of freight through the country.
“After having a look at one of the world’s leading iron alloy companies YDD Ferroalloys and UDD Asia Alloys, we once again saw confirmation that a dialogue with entrepreneurs is vital from the very start of efforts to organise the logistical process as efficiently as possible. It is important for Latvia’s side to represent the entire industry, including Latvian Stevedoring Company Association, which unites private companies from Riga, Ventspils and Liepaja sea ports,” stressed Reimanis.
Cooperation with Kazakhstan continues expanding. Since the start of the year the volume of freight from this country has increased significantly. Kazakhstan railway company Kazakhstan Temir Zholy CEO for logistics Erlan Koibishev affirmed having good relations with Latvian Railways, as well as his country’s readiness to provide maximum aid to other companies wishing to send their freight to Latvia.
Latvia’s delegation to Kazakhstan included representatives of Freeport of Riga, Terrabalt and Liepaja Sea Port Tenants Association, as well as Latvia’s ambassador to Kazakhstan Irina Mangule.
